Hyper Cross-Linked Polymers as Additives for Preventing Aging of PIM-1 Membranes

Mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) are that composed of polymers embedded with inorganic particles. By combining the fillers, improvements can be made to permeability compared pure polymer due new pathways for gas transport. However, such as hyper cross-linked (HCP), also help reduce physical aging MMMs a glassy matrix. Here we report synthesis two novel HCP based on Friedel–Crafts reaction between tetraphenyl methane monomer and bromomethyl benzene monomer. According temperature solvent used during (dichloromethane (DCM) or dichloroethane (DCE)), different particle sizes have been obtained, 498 nm DCM 120 DCE. The change in process induces surface area pore volumes. Several developed PIM-1 matrix HCPs fillers at 3% 10wt % loading. Their permeation performances studied over course years order explore effects time. Without filler, exhibits classical behavior intrinsic microporosity, namely, progressive decline permeation, up 90% CO2 permeability. On contrary, HCPs, longer terms is moderated decrease 60% 13C spin-lattice relaxation times (T1) indicates this slowdown related interactions PIM-1.
